What is a butler?

A butler is typically a male household servant who serves as the chief administrative officer of a large household, such as a grand estate or a wealthy family. They are responsible for managing household staff, overseeing household operations, planning and executing events, and serving as a general aid to the household's owner.

Butlers are often highly skilled and trained in a variety of areas, including fine dining service, wine and beverage service, table setting, and event planning. They may also be responsible for the care and maintenance of the household's silverware, china, linens, and other valuables.

In modern times, butlers may also be employed in more diverse roles beyond the traditional household setting, including in hotels, private yachts, and other high-end service industries. Some butlers may also earn certification through professional organizations such as the International Butler Academy or the British Butler Institute.
